Advancing players working on technique and giving performances in larger settings must concentrate on developing agility, accuracy, and breadth of expression. Their instruments require a full and rich tone, must be well balanced, and need to project nicely in a group setting. At the same time, some forgiveness must temper the performance or nerves and less than perfect skills can lead to problems.
These violins are generally made in small workshops overseen by masters. The woods are better and the attention to fine details of graduation and arching is much more pronounced. These instruments tend to follow classical models closely. Each violin receives more individual attention to get greater performance. Final set-up is more advanced and typically involves a complete workup by our luthier, Steve Perry. The tone is more complex, the response more rapid, and the individual character of each violin shows through.
These instruments are generally hand made in mid-size to large workshops by craft specialists. They begin to exhibit a greater degree of individual difference and can be more effectively adjusted to a player’s preferences.
Advanced Violins & Fiddles $1300 to $4000
