Ivan Dunov - Carpathian tonewoods, European Luthiery
Violinmakers have long prized tonewoods from the Carpathian Mountains of Romania.
Generations of expert woodsmen perfected the techniques of harvesting, sectioning, and
seasoning these valuable tonewoods to yield the best possible tonal results. These
exceptional tonewoods are crafted into the four different Ivan Dunov models in a traditional
Eastern European workshop.   Excellent construction, beautiful varnish, very nice tonewoods,
and proper setup at Gianna Violins make the difference.  See the summary tables to the left
for details.

Eastman Strings provides two series of Dunov instruments.  The Prelude series are basic
instruments with a warm, open sound and a flat, non-reflective finish applied in Romania.  The
Dunov and Dunov Superioer models use upgraded wood, additional detailing during
construction, and have thin, dark spirit varnish applied in Eastman Strings’ Maryland
workshop.

Our luthier Stephen Perry will gladly discuss an appropriate instrument from the Ivan Dunov
line or Gianna Violins other fine lines of bowed string instruments.  We also offer a generous
trade-up policy.
