This particular instrument is a beautiful del Gesu model based on the Cannon of 1742. Local tonewoods of exceptional quality, excellent workmanship, and beautiful fittings immediately strike the eye. The varnish is thin and elegantly shaded. Slight "antiquing" adds a nice touch. Nice to have a violin from a woman maker.
Moneff's instrument really sparkle under the bow. The strings offer a bit of resistance; the bow starts with a slight pop, the sound jumping out very quickly. The tone is brilliant, focused, intense, but with a warmth and fullness underneath. Nice. Very nice. I'd be happy to have made a violin producing this tone.
