Kazanlak - Bulgaria's "Rose City" - has
everything a violinmaker needs - access to
fine tonewood from nearby mountains, a
deep musical history, and an established
luthiery tradition. Numerous individual makers
and small shops produce fine, handcrafted
instruments. Many workers trained in
Cremona or in the German guild tradition. We
carry a small range of fine instruments from
Kazanlak, ranging from student instruments
to fine benchmade concert violins.
We can't keep all of these in stock all the
time. They're handmade by relatively few
craftsmen. No carving rooms with 100 people
working furiously! If you're interested in a
particular maker, let us know, even if we don't
normally carry that maker's work. We may be
able to help you out.
