Interesting tidbits from Gianna
Winter is here...
and so is the need for keeping your instrument out of the deep freeze...
Just a reminder to take care of your instrument during dry cold months of the winter season.  Generally what we heat our
homes with tends to keep the air dryer.  If you don't use a humidifier in your home, you may want to put some small
humidifying device in your instrument cases.  Sometimes something as simple as a piece of sponge, wetted and squeezed
out well then set inside the accessory compartment of your case is all you need.

What if your instrument was left too long in the cold?  Leave it in the case, take it inside and let everything equalize gradually
before opening it.  I generally suggest no less than 2 hours to allow things to settle down before opening the case.

This is also a good guideline when you receive instruments through the mail.  Boxes can get very cold inside those trucks
during the winter.  If your box feels rather really cold when you get it, cut it open and then just leave it, packing and all, to
warm gradually over a couple of hours.  Generally speaking, the padding material around the instrument case also acts as
insulation (at least it does how we pack it!).  This is the main reason that Gianna Violins chooses to recycle newspaper for
winter packing... it's environmentally friendly and paper is insulating.

What else can we do at the music shop?
Winter is a nice time to visit us at Gianna Violins.  I know family members can get bored with tagging along to the family
musicians' "ultimate toy store".  Fortunately we have many attractions nearby:

Our shop is right beside a quiet cove on
Ft. Loudon Lake.  There are docks and a launching ramp.  Migrating birds visit the
cove during the cold months and our pond is clear enough to pay a visit to the fish.  Little ones enjoy giving them a treat
provided and guided happily by me (Gianna).

We're less than ten miles from
Lenoir City.  There are play parks, walking trails, restaurants and shops available.  Just ask
me(Gianna) and I'll be glad to give directions, print maps, etc.

Want to spend the entire day?  Family members can enjoy nearby
Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, The Great Smoky
Mountains and Knoxville.  Again, we'll be happy to provide travel information from our shop to these attractions.

What about pets?  Well mannered pets are welcome to come in out of the cold.  Just ask, we have water and treats.  During
the winter , Elvis and his elderly friend, Mac spend most days in the shop with us, so please ask before bringing in an
unfamiliar animal.
